What is an Italian legal translation?

Q: What is an Italian legal translation?

A:When you move to Italy, study abroad, or get married internationally, you may be asked to submit various documents such as family register and graduation certificate.

At that time, the official document that is recognized as the official document is the document that has been processed for legal translation into Italian.

Italian legal translation documents are Japanese documents that have been apostille certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and are translated into Italian by a translator designated by the Embassy. A document that has received a translation visa.

Q: Why do we have to go through legal translation procedures even though the document was officially obtained from a Japanese city or ward office?

A:Documents officially submitted to Italy are not accepted in Japanese.

The document is translated into Italian by a translator designated by the Italian Embassy in Tokyo, followed by legal translation procedures at the Consular Section of the Embassy.

*From this academic year, the documents used to apply for the certificate of equivalence, which is necessary when studying at an Italian university, can be written in English if the university allows it. Please contact the university to see if it is possible to submit in English.Since you do not need an Italian translation, you can proceed with the procedure speedily.

However, even if you are applying in English, you will still need to submit an official seal confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an equivalent certificate application to the consular section of the embassy.

Q: I heard that I need to obtain a Ministry of Foreign Affairs apostille before the legal translation procedure.

A: Documents issued by Japanese city halls, ward offices, universities, etc. are official documents for Japanese people, but foreigners who cannot read Japanese do not know if they are official documents. hmm?

So, first of all, by getting an apostille or official seal confirmation certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, you can certify that the document is a correct document issued by a Japanese government agency or various institutions.

After that, the legal translation procedure is completed at the Italian Embassy.

*Depending on the type of document, notarization by a notary public at a notary public office is required, especially in the case of private documents, instead of receiving an apostille or official seal confirmation certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. .

First of all, please send us the original data of the document you wish to translate (PDF or photo image is also OK) by e-mail attachment.

After looking at the original data, we will contact you with an estimate.

If a legal translation visa from the Italian Embassy is required, the original Japanese document must be accompanied by an apostille or official seal confirmation certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (*For private documents, notarization and apostille are required.)

Please send us the original Japanese document with an apostille or official seal confirmation certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by mail by the day the translator will be seconded to the Italian Embassy.

You can apply for and receive a Ministry of Foreign Affairs apostille yourself, but if you live far away and wish to have it done on your behalf, our center can also act on your behalf.

For legal translation visa application only: A legal translator designated by the embassy will visit the Italian embassy with the original Japanese document and the translated document in order to obtain approval for the translation visa from the Italian embassy.
A separate procedure is required to apply for an equivalence certificate.
